OPEN DOOR Centre of Education and Rehabilitation

The acquisition of our own premises, which for over 30 years seemed an impossible dream, suddenly became feasible thanks to the significant donation made by the Lilian Voudouri Foundation and the success of the TV-Marathon organised by Mega Channel in 1996. In addition to the large number of friends who responded to our appeal, we received some support from the Ministry of Health & Welfare, while the Stavros Niarchos Foundation was among our major benefactors and many other foundations, societies, associations and private individuals also contributed generously.

Thus, with the help of all our friends, we were finally able to "open our door".

H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Constantine Stephanopoulos, inaugurated the Open Door Centre on December 12, 2001.

The Open Door Centre of Education and Rehabilitation is a hospitable Greek home, a well-run, well-equipped, operational unit that can compete with the best that Europe has to offer.

Step by step, with careful planning, we have built up a wide range of comprehensive services and programmes for the education and rehabilitation of people with cerebral palsy of all ages. These include: medical diagnosis and care, therapy, education, social and psychological support, vocational training, temporary hospitality, permanent residential care and a wide range of recreational programmes to over 240 infants, children, young people and adults on a daily basis, free of charge.

Since 2005, a fully registered Public Primary School for children with cerebral palsy operates on our premises.
