Therapeutic swimming

The Therapeutic Swimming programme operates on a daily basis in the heated
swimming pool of the Open Door Centre.

The team consists of specialized staff trained in the Halliwick Method.
Following the 10 stages of the Method, the purpose of the programme is to
provide the children and young people with the opportunity to experience the
effect of water on their bodies and by taking advantage of the properties that
water provides and by controlling their bodies in the water to become
accomplished swimmers.

Added benefits of the exercises performed in the water are the strengthening of
the respiratory and muscular system, the improvement of balance and agility,
the development of self-confidence and the sheer enjoyment of being in the water.

For this reason we cooperate with the parents and instruct them in the
appropriate technique, in order to insure that their children can reach the stage
of being safe swimmers in any environment.
